Currently there is no cure for lupus. In most cases, those battling the disease are left to become medicine dependent in order to keep the disease under control. It sucks, so whenever new discoveries surface, it is always an exciting moment.
The research team at the University of Florida’s College of Medicine initially got the idea for this method of attack on lupus after seeing a similar approach succeed in a cancer research. Laurence Morel, Ph.D., director of experimental pathology and a professor of pathology, immunology and laboratory medicine in the UF College of Medicine, is one of the people responsible for the the new discovery.
The latest discovery could mean big things for those living their lives with lupus. We will have to wait to see what happens next.
